The Middle School Mountain Biking Team got off to a great start last weekend, competing at their first race of the season, held at Beaver Mountain in Logan. The team has been training over the summer and riders were excited to tackle the hand-built 5.2 mile trail at the top of Logan Canyon for their first race. The team is made up of 7th and 8th graders at all riding levels, from beginner to advanced, and welcomed several team members new to the sport this year. Riders began practicing in June for the Mountain Biking season, which goes through September. Goals of the program include being part of a team, improving mountain biking skills, riding the local trails for enjoyment, and having fun!
All of the riders at last week’s race raced hard and we were very proud of their hard work, remarked Coach Jessica Jencks, who is Head Coach of the team, along with her husband, Hollis.
The team has two more races this month, one at Snowbasin on September 11 and their final race at Soldier Hollow on September 25.
