On Thursday, May 20, the WSD Art Department, in partnership with the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program, presented a Lower School Spring Arts Gallery Walk. Students in all grades were invited to take a walk through the auditorium and foyer to admire and celebrate visual art pieces created during the year in Lower School Art. The art works on display integrated core curricular studies such as ELA, Science, and Social Studies, and demonstrate student effort at its best!
PreK4 students created pinch pots in bright blue or red, which were then fired in our kiln. Students were literally able to put their thumbprint on their work!
Kindergarten students created a Rainforest Installation to enhance their study of animals and animal habitats.
First grade students learned about light this year. They created “stained-glass windows” with tissue paper and added their first initial.
Second graders do an extended study of endangered animals. For their project, they used recycled materials to create animal masks.
Third grade students combined their science study of biomes with their art study of landscapes and created beautiful collages with accompanying descriptions.
Fourth graders capped their yearlong study of Utah history and culture with western watercolor landscapes suitable for framing!
Fifth grade self portraits comment on this year’s student experience and are highly creative and reflective.
