WSD art students in 7th and 8th grades are bringing enchanted architecture to life in the clay studio!
Using a variety of techniques, they created hollow, 3D ceramic fairy houses designed to function as glowing luminaries for LED tea lights.
In following their rubrics, students used “additive techniques” where they scored and slipped 3D enhancements such as leaf shingles, stone foundations, chimneys, and spiraling vines. They also employed “subtractive methods” where they carved wood textures and cut lattice windows. Precision and attention to detail were required every step of the way, ensuring smooth seams, borders, and surfaces. Adding tea lights to make the houses glow was the last step in transforming flat clay slabs into freestanding light-emitting habitats.
