Welcome to the Reading Café!

By Melinda Long, WSD Library

Our WSD Library was recently transformed into a Reading Café  where students participated in a wonderful celebration of books! The library space was set up like a cozy café  – checkered tablecloths, flowers, tea lights, background music, and yes, you needed a reservation!  At each table, students discovered brand-new books that have just been added to our Library collection, arranged by genre. As part of the Reading Café experience, guests got to sample, or “taste,” the new books by browsing through the titles at their table before rotating to a new table.

The excitement was contagious — many students lined up quickly to reserve their spot so they could check out the new books they discovered they had a “taste” for. It was such a joy to watch them eagerly exploring stories, graphic novels, adventures, and informational books they were excited to read. Students were then invited to give their “Michelin Star” rating to each book they browsed – information that will inform future book purchases for the Library!

These wonderful new titles were made possible by funds raised during our Fall Book Fair, but were showcased at the Reading Café as the culmination of our Spring Book Fair. A heartfelt thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who gave their time and energy to help make our book fairs so successful, and to The Story Cupboard for providing our fairs with high quality books to offer our students!  We are thrilled to continue adding titles that reflect our students’ interests and passions, and we are grateful for a school community that supports a love of reading.

Happy Reading!
