At this year’s Discovery Gala fundraiser, “Night On The Nile,” local songwriter and popular performer, Mary Beth Maziarz, surprised the crowd with an original song dedicated to Weilenmann School of Discovery. Approximately 200 guests were treated to the debut of “Weilenmann, Oh Weilenmann.” Performing the song on both vocals and piano was the artist herself, who, along with her husband Mark, are long-time WSD parents and avid supporters.
Mary Beth Maziarz is a performing songwriter with seven award-winning albums and original songs in over 80 television shows and films. You have probably heard some of her songs and not even known it! She has opened for luminaries such as Etta James, The Wallflowers,10,000 Maniacs, Little Big Town, Aloe Blacc, and Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks. Mary Beth’s work in songwriting led her to write the book, Kick-Ass Creativity, and has made her a popular speaker on creativity and energy at venues such as TEDx, Creative Mornings, Sundance Institute, and her own summer songwriting camps for students.
“Mark and I are so pleased to have our kids at WSD,” the artist explains,” and I wanted to write a song that reflects that feeling, that tradition, of ‘be true to your school.’ I am honored to help WSD further its artistic footprint and legacy.”
