WSD’s 2021-22 Writer In Residence

Christian McKay Heidicker

We are pleased to announce that acclaimed children’s author, Christian McKay Heidicker, will join Weilenmann School of Discovery for the 2021-22 school year as Writer in Residence. Christian is the recipient of a Newbery Honor Award and a Booklist Best for Scary Stories For Young Foxes, which he talked about with WSD students in early 2020 at an assembly and book signing shortly after the Newbery announcement. He has been highly productive since then — the second book in his well-received Weirdwood series comes out next month, and a sequel to Young Foxes arrives on bookshelves this August.

Christian will conduct many grade-level student and faculty writing workshops throughout the school year, speak at Lower and Middle School assemblies, and offer schoolwide readings and workshops open to parents and community members. He will also join our Faculty Writing Group, provide one-on-one mentoring for aspiring writers among our faculty and students, and play an integral part in ushering in “The Year of Writing” at WSD.

We are thrilled to welcome Christian McKay Heidicker as Writer In Residence and look forward to working and writing with him next year!
