The WSD Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Steve Williams as the Executive Director of the Weilenmann School of Discovery beginning July 1, 2020. In their announcement to the school community, the board acknowledged Steve Williams as the candidate most qualified and suited to lead WSD, and expressed “great confidence” in his understanding of the school’s mission and vision as well as the energy and perspective he will bring to the position. Steve will succeed Cindy Phillips, Executive Director for the past eight years. Cindy will return to the classroom full time at WSD, while continuing to work in support of charter schools as a member of the Utah State Charter School Board.

Steve Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in American Studies and a masters in English. Prior to joining WSD, he was an administrator and teacher at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Atlanta, Georgia and at the Waterford School in Sandy, Utah. In addition to his 15 years of administrative work, Steve has been a secondary classroom teacher for over 25 years and will continue to teach select courses while serving as Executive Director. He has also been the recipient of prestigious scholarship awards, including the Waterford Educator Prize and the National Endowment for the Humanities Folger Award, Georgetown University, in support of Shakespeare in the classroom.

WSD has been such an important part of my life since its founding ten years ago, Steve reflects. I love this school–my students, colleagues, and all the families in our Weilenmann community. This is a special place, and I am honored to have the trust of our Board of Directors, faculty, and school leaders behind me as we move into our second decade together.
