Who says history is just reading out of a textbook? Not WSD fourth graders! For them, history is something to experience. Recently, they transformed their classrooms into a living Utah History Exhibition, bringing the stories of mountain men, pioneers, Native Americans, explorers, and Pony Express riders to life. Parents, grandparents, classmates, and staff packed the Exhibition throughout the day to ask questions and learn from these dedicated student historians. They could see that students had done more than just read about Utah’s past—they did in-depth research, crafted incredible artifacts with their own hands, learned about and wrote pioneer stories, dressed in period costumes as they inhabited real-life characters from Utah history, and polished their presentations to perfection. By stepping into the shoes of those who came before them, these impressive young historians proved that the best way to learn about the past is to bring it to life.
