Hearts and Hands

Through our continued participation in the American Heart Association’s “Kids Heart Challenge,” Weilenmann School of Discovery was recently given a CPR in Schools® With First Aid Training Kit – a user-friendly comprehensive kit we can use to teach the lifesaving skill of CPR, how to use an AED, and basic first aid in the school environment. Funding for the kit has been generously provided by local Utah sponsor, WCF Insurance, and is specifically tailored to meet the needs of schools.

Because of the donation, Lower School PE students are currently learning hands-only CPR, coaching each other and practicing their skills on the 10 manikins provided in the kit. Officially named “Mini Anne Plus,” each inflatable manikin is referred to by WSD students simply as “Bob.”

“The kids have responded well to this training,” reports WSD PE teacher, Gage Farinacci, or ‘Coach Gage.’  “and the kit has everything we need, right down to the manikin wipes! During training I play music – ‘Stayin’ Alive’ or ‘Baby Shark’ – to keep everyone on the right beat, and it works great. We’ve been doing a lot of repetition, practicing the skills intensely, so we make sure to finish each class with a little heart-healthy game of dodgeball.”
