Going Greener

Weilenmann School of Discovery received four new shade trees this week! Two linden trees and one Tatarian maple were planted on the Kindergarten playground, and a tulip poplar tree was planted on the Big playground. The trees were funded by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Park City, which has been partnering with the nonprofit TreeUtah to get more trees planted in public spaces in our community.

The tree plantings became a school event. Jack Jacobs of TreeUtah not only delivered and planted the trees, he talked to the students about the role trees play in our world, provided a tree-planting “how-to” for even our youngest students (including kid-sized shovels), and allowed students of all ages to be part of the process. The new trees have been growing for 6 – 8 years already, and have been specially chosen for WSD’s soil, water, and weather conditions. At a school where students are outdoors as much as in, they will be noticed and appreciated every day!
