Sixth graders spent a morning at Deer Valley Ponds engaged in some hands-on environmental education and a little bit of fun. They first released 80 young rainbow trout into the ponds, which are located at the base of Deer Valley Ski Resort and surrounded by short, paved paths. Since January, students have been raising the fish from eggs – feeding them, monitoring the tank, and recording their progress. The fish will continue to grow and add to the population of the ponds, which are stocked with small trout for catch-and-release fishing. While at the Deer Valley Ponds, students were also able to test the water quality, learn about aquatic invertebrates, and have a lesson on the fundamentals of fly fishing.
