Weilenmann Weekly Updates – January 20, 2012
Robo Thunder Places First
Congratulations to WSD’s Robotics Team, Robo Thunder, for earning a Champion Award at the FIRST Lego League Competition at Ecker Hill on January 14. Team members Zina Horman, Max Davidson, Paul Cox, Garrett McClellan, Eric Fisher, Dominick Isaacson, Avi Gregory, and Kip McClellan led the competition in overall team dynamics and the three categories of competition: robot missions, core values, and research project. Of the 19 teams that participated at this competition, the top 6 teams will go on to state competition at the University of Utah on January 28. Robo Thunder is coached by Annette & Scott McClellan, and Derek Jewel.
WSD 2012-13 Pre-registration
Pre-registration forms were due today. We will follow up individually with those who have missing forms.
Carpool Dismissal
We are encouraged by the new system recently implemented during afternoon dismissal and pick-up. Parents, please support these efforts by reminding your student to listen for their name and load as quickly as possible, and by picking up your student no later than 3:30pm.
Mary Kimball Invited to Educational Summit
WSD Principal, Mary Kimball, was selected by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) to represent Utah at an educational summit in Washington, D.C. next week. Mary is one of three representatives from Utah attending the summit and the only teacher. She was chosen in order to “add a different perspective that could help create a vision of what assessment should look like in the future of Federal assessments.”
The educational summit is designed to work with state and district-level stakeholders to seek their unique perspective on major education initiatives and activities that will assist NAEP in planning for its role in the future of assessment. Trends in technology innovation, learning and cognition, learning with technology and assessing with technology will be the focus of this year’s summit.
Literacy Week Author Visits
Those students who missed the deadline but still wish to have books signed by visiting authors during Literacy Week should note that Mark and Caralyn Buehner will bring a selection of titles with them on Tuesday, January 24. Parents may choose to send payment with their student, based on the price list that went home with students previously. Matthew Kirby will not be bringing any books to sign on that day.

Travel Clean Car Wash
Time is running out to take advantage of this huge opportunity for Weilenmann School. Our goal is for each student to sell 2 cards. This is one of the few fundraisers where you actually get 100% of what you’re paying for. Cards make great gifts, never expire, and Travel Clean is 5 minutes from the school.
Kids Night Out
Black Diamond will host another “Kids Night Out” event on Friday, February 3. Drop off your children between 6:30 – 9:30 for $25 per child, snack provided. Black Diamond generously donates 80% of the proceeds from “Kids Night Out” to Weilenmann School!
