Weilenmann School of Discovery

Stein Erickson Lodge was the perfect setting for Weilenmann School of Discovery’s first annual ‘Night of Discovery’ Gala and live auction on Saturday, November 4th. Attended by over 200 parents and friends of WSD, the event raised over $100,000 for the school’s general fund, a remarkable achievement for a public school event.

The evening began with a silent auction and cocktail hour that allowed guests ample time to socialize and browse the items for bid. Among the offerings were golf, ski, hotel, restaurant and spa packages, art and furniture, and various services donated by WSD teachers. Also very popular were themed gift baskets put together by students in each grade level. Guests were then invited to gather in the Olympic Ballroom for a full course dinner, a viewing of the Gala video featuring WSD students and teachers, and some words from Principal Mary Kimball, before launching into the live auction.

Emceed by Nathan Florence, WSD art teacher, the live auction featured such items as a one-week stay in a luxury Costa Rican home; Yankees vs. Red Sox tickets w/signed Joe DiMaggio photograph; meals prepared at your home by a private chef; and an ultra-luxury Vegas trip including penthouse stay and show tickets. Following the live auction, guests enjoyed the music of ‘Gearhead’, a popular local band, and finished out the evening dancing to classic rock, mingling with friends, and reveling in this wonderfully successful evening.

The silent auction brought in $24,000 and the live auction $64,000, with another $13,000 received from charitable giving and an “opportunity drawing.” The ‘Night of Discovery’ is certain to become a yearly tradition for WSD, bringing together members of the Weilenmann and greater communities for an important cause and a lot of fun. Our special thanks to Gala organizer and Board member, Cindy Levine and her committee, generous parents and community members who donated items for auction, and to all who attended the sold-out event and contributed to its success.
