Kicking off the new year: Board update August 2011

Dear Weilenmann Family:

On behalf of your Board, thank-you all for a very successful inaugural school year and welcome everyone to our second year. As you’ve probably seen or heard by now, the theme for our school year, as chosen by Mary, is ‘See The World Through Different Eyes’, and what could be a more appropriate theme for our students and parents alike in recognizing all of the beauty & joy we experience in our daily lives here in Utah.

As we start our second year, we will transition from a start up board to a governing board. The board’s main focus will be the critical task of fundraising, applying for grants and seeking funding from outside sources including our corporate community. We will be holding a fundraising gala for the entire community on November 5th and the PSTO will be hosting many smaller, “just for fun”, community-building functions. As always, we are a community of volunteers, devoting time, resources and skills to help create and maintain the wonderful school that we have today.

Please volunteer freely of your time so that we can achieve our goal of 100% participation this school year. Join the PSTO, or if you have some relevant experience in fundraising or administration please submit your name to the Board.

It may surprise you to know that we have short wait lists in many classes, and immediate openings in certain grades. Please tell your friends and spread the word. We are close to full enrollment and a have a high rate of returning students, but we want and need to be fully enrolled at the start of school.

Updates:

  • Summit County has widened Kilby road and added our turn lane. They asked that we contribute funding toward this effort and we negotiated a fifteen thousand dollar contribution spread over three years.
  • We have expanded the lower parking lot and added sixteen stalls. To free up the parking lots for special events, the Park City Fire Department will allow parallel parking for teachers and staff along one side of the rear fire lane. We will continue to add more parking as funding and government regulations allow.
  • The roof has been repaired and classrooms re-organized. We’d like to thank Dallis Nordstrom and Derek Wilson for their work on this and countless other details.
  • We are grateful to Suzy Rigard and her volunteers for working tirelessly over the summer to build a playground within our limited budget. We will continue to grow it.

We have completely reorganized the fundraising committee with Cindy Levine as chairperson. Kirsti Rosenfield will be heading up grant writing efforts. Our first community event is the fall festival on October 15th. Our main fundraising event will be a dinner gala on November 5th at Stein Erikson’s. Everyone is invited for an evening of fine food, fun and celebration.

We’ll have a school fund as well, and some smaller events. Here are the event dates so far:

October 15th 11am to 2pm
Join us for this years Fall Festival and enjoy lunch, games, face paintings, pumpkin decorating, crafts, opportunity drawings and more…Mark your calendars and see the front desk for opportunity drawing tickets.

Nov 5th 6pm
Don’t miss our WSD very first Annual Night of Discovery Gala Fundraising Event. Held at the beautiful Stein Erikson Lodge, enjoy an evening of dining, music, friends and spectacular live and silent auction items for all purses. Just being there helps our school so be sure to purchase your tickets or a table early and receive a discounted price. See front desk for details.

That’s all for now. We will update regularly and board minutes are posted here. Please don’t hesitate to volunteer in any capacity that you can. Thanks for all you do as our families to make our school great.
